Think we have similar taste in matters of delightful pieces of literature? Here, I’ll slip you a few recommendations under the table, all discreet-like. Then we can both bury our chins in our high collared spy-coats, pretend that nothing happened, and go on with our book nerd lives.

Books I love tend to be a combination of the following elements: a slight bit dark/creepy, quirky and real characters, lyrical syntax, or hilarious prose.

Contemporary Fiction (with some Speculative in the mix):

  • Fangirl and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
  • We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
  • The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
  • Conviction by Kelly Loy Gilbert
  • The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
  • The Midnighters trilogy by Scott Westerfeld
  • Sleeping Freshman Never Lie by David Lubar

  • The Hollow Kingdom trilogy by Clare B. Dunkle
  • This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
  • The Goose Girl and subsequent Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • The Shamer’s Daughter series by Lene Kaaberbol
  • Piratica by Tanith Lee

  • Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  • Everything Shakespeare ever wrote….my favorite is The Tempest
  • Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott
  • The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
